Bakgrund
Konstfrämjandet Värmland har en lång erfarenhet av samarbete med konstnärer. I detta projektet vill vi undersöka konst i bibliotek, en naturliga arena för samarbeten om konst och bildningsprojekt. Ofta har denna synergi givit ett positivt utfall. Konstfrämjandet Värmland gjorde för ett antal år sedan ett projekt med unga samtidskonstnärer om utlån på bibliotek, det projektet gav en positivt respons både från bibliotekens personal och besökare. Konstfrämjandet Värmland har ambitionen att göra konstprojekt som når till ytterkanterna av Värmland, där finns biblioteken som en viktig mötesplats.Konstfrämjandet Värmland har ett kontaktnät i biblioteken i Värmland.

Projektet ansöker om medel för är syftet att konstnärers praktik ska lyftas in i vår offentliga miljö och på så sätt hitta en naturlig ingång för att möta publiken i ett konst och bildningsprojekt.

Projektbeskrivning

Åtta konstnärer bjuds in att var och en utföra ett verk i dialog med en av konstnären utvald sektion av bibliotekskatalogen. Verken skapas på ett sätt som kan integreras i bibliotekens befintliga hyllsystem och sammanställs till en utställning som kommer turnera med platsspecifik installation på Värmlands bibliotek, med start på Karlstad kommuns bibliotek under 2023.

Parter i projektet

Projektet drivs av Konstfrämjandet Värmland, och initieras med stöd av Karlstad kommun, Årjängs kommun samt Region Värmland. Förhoppningen är att fler värmländska kommuner ska vilja ansluta och möjliggöra en förlängning och eventuell utökning av projektet.

Förutsättningar, beskrivning av platsen Bibliotek

Biblioteken är en av det demokratiska samhällets stöttepelare. De är våra gemensamma vardagsrum, kunskapskällor, mötesplatser, samlingspunkter, vilrum och andrum från det i övrigt kommersialiserade offentliga rummet. Konstnärerna som bjuds in till att delta i projektet bör ha i åtanke bibliotekens roll som allas plats, att människor med olika bakgrund och erfarenhet kommer mötas av konstverken i sin vardag.

Invitation to participate

Eight artists are invited to each perform a work in dialogue with a section of the library catalog selected by us. The works are created in a way that can be integrated into the library’s existing shelving system and compiled into an exhibition that will tour with a site-specific installation at Värmland’s library, starting at Karlstad Municipality’s library in 2023.

Libraries are one of the pillars of democratic society. They are our common living rooms, sources of knowledge, meeting places, meeting points, rest rooms and respite from the otherwise commercialized public space. The artists who are invited to participate in the project should keep in mind the role of libraries as a place for everyone, that people with different backgrounds and experiences will be met by the artworks in their everyday lives.

The goal is for the works to be an addition both to the public environment and in terms of content to the context found in the libraries.

Project idea

The project’s works are to be deployed and ”incorporated” on the shelves in the libraries. The works can be seen as a kind of ”educational bacillus” that is infected to rediscover the educational capital that the library shelves contain. The works will in some cases take up a lot of space, in other cases sneaked in among the books on the shelves. Ex, next to I there is a work that talks to art history, on the highest shelf at H a work that talks to fiction and on the floor at P a work that talks to technology.

After you have responded to our invitation, we assign you a placement in the Library. There are different sub-levels in the Cataloging System. This is to get a spread of the works in the library. (If you are dissatisfied with us, open a discussion about a change.)
